Parkinson en mouvement offers a Training program in development of expertise in teaching classes for those living with Parkinson’s disease.
Requirements: training either as a dancer, dance therapist, kinesiologist, physiotherapist, or personal trainer, as well as some teaching skills are recommended.
Program description: Based on the most advanced research as to the positive effects of dance, music and of certain specialized types of movement for people with PD, our professionals teach their unique approach which brings together the expertise of dance, dance therapy and physiotherapy. The Parkinson en mouvement’s approach fosters improvements in strength, balance, endurance, range of motion, gait and posture, integration of movements and experience useful in daily activities, and encourages creativity, expressiveness and community building. Other core elements include choreography and improvisation integrating principles of LSVT BIG (Lee Silverman Voice Treatments). The initial Intensive two-day course consists of 15 theoretical modules intertwined with understanding and modules on PD with practical observations of classes and workshops to create model classes. The course work is followed by assistantships in classes and opportunities to integrate and apply the material.
